A: That REALLY depends on which year 5series you are willing to buy,
a 1980-1990 model you need just a mere mcdonalds job full-time (well, maybe something slightly better than mcdonalds)
1990-1999 around a solid average of 30-40k a year also, depending on the year.
Also remeber that the second a new car drives out of the store, it decreases in sales dramatically so i would say a new 528i would cost you around 60k Canadian, BASE PRICE with no options and before taxes, with taxes, it will be around the 65-67k range (Yes, canada has high taxes). A 550i would start at 80k, BASE, and after taxes 90k+.
The 528i could max out at 75-80k after taxes while the 550i could be over 110k CAD.
I would think you would need to have a salary of around 80k+ to afford and maintain a new BMW 5Series.
Again, it depends on the year/model.

A: drill a tiny tiny hole in the lights. that will allow the condensation to leave and prevent it from coming back, or you could take out the whole headlight, remove the bulb and let it dry out and do that everytime you get cond. in it.

Off side rear passenger door lock has stopped working unless I manualy open/lock and haven’t found a Haynes manual for this model – Anyone got any reference points for how to examine the system and diagnose/fix the problem (or any other advice?)
A: I guess what you mean really is that the operating rod does not move up or down unless manually done so.
Then you need a door lock actuator. Installation is a little tricky
and is best left to a professional although you can try if you have the patience and mechanical acumen.
To do so first buy the part (p/n 67 118 352 165), then bring up the window glass and remove the door trim/panel. Get a flashlight and peer inside the door cavity, attached to the door lock is the actuator
which has a cable that you have to detach. Taking out the actuator is easy. But attaching the new one is tricky since the actuator should be in sync with the door lock.

A: The BMW 5 series is by far the better car of the ones you mention, go for the 530d for the best overall package and you will indeed get the best mix of luxury, performance and fuel economy.
iDrive is only annoying to middle aged technophobes, if you can use a mobile phone you shouldn’t have any problem.

Q: Dual exhaust on an e34 1995 5 series BMW?
I have an e34 (1995 525i) which I would like to add a dual exhaust system to.
Im guessing theyd have to remove the spare tire to attatch the second exhaust pipe?
Has anyone seen this or had it done? Suggestions?
A: The stock system is already twin pipe all the way back.
With an inline 6 engine, the exhaust comes from one side of the engine. BMW designed the car for one set of twin pipes.
Are you trying to increase performance or just want the look?
I’m trying to think of a good routing in my head and I just can’t come up with one. I guess you could loose the spare tire well and run it that way. Ugh.
Q: How do I re-attach the interior rear view mirror to my S reg 5 series BMW.?
It fell off when I was cleaning it.There is no obvious means of attachment.There are no glue marks or sticky pads,only a rubber washer which surrounds the back of the mirror leg.
A: The glue you need to use is called loctite , it is in two parts , one is a spray and the other a gel , you mix 50 50 and put a small amount on the mirror boss (the metal bit) then fix it in place with a piece of masking tape for one hour.on the 5 srs the mirror twists off the boss to the left or right so you will need some pliers or a small screwdriver to twist the metal fitting from the mirror it will turn 45 degrees then release , make sure all debris and grease are removed from the boss and the glass before you glue ,use some white spirits on a cloth and wipe clean. be sure to fix the boss on the right angle so that when you twist the mirror on it is located straight it is like an hexagonal shape , if there is a rain sensor on the screen it may be a bit more complex but i can tell you what you need to know. when the glue is dry the mirror will twist on , spray a small amount of wd40 in the fitting of the mirror to aid the re-fitting and good luck.If you need any advice mail me and i will talk you through it.

A: Most BMW’s that get into high water bend piston rods and require engine replacement. Water going through the turbos usually destroys them. You probably have major damage.

A: You have to find out the offset. I had those same wheels on my 2002 m3. I don’t think that the e39 and e46 wheels are swappable.
