Q: Anyone know where i can find these kinds of cars in Michigan that are used and for sale?
2006 Jeep Commander.
2008 Dodge Avenger.

A: yeah use the yahoo auto section. i used that when i bought my durango last year. This is great because you see what dealers are offering and private sellers. Dodge avengers’ around me (i live in clinton township. macomb county) http://autos.yahoo.com/used-cars/overview;_ylt=AvXod9UizsIHDEUa5g1arYQEc78F;_ylv=3?make=dodge&model=avenger&location=48036

Q: Buying vehicle from private owner w/no title…PLEASE READ?
My question is this. 2 months ago I bought a vehicle from a private owner who didn’t have the title. We paid her 500.00 cash and would owe her another 100.00 when she recieved the title from the dmv. Bc the vehicle was such a gas guzzler, we turned around and sold the vehicle to someone else, as they knew we didn’t have the title ourselves and were working on getting it from the owner. Well come to find out bc the vehicle had a expired tag(due to the lady we bought it from), they keep getting pulled over. I can’t seem to get in touch with the lady about the title, so we told the 3rd party buyers to apply for an abonded title, little did we know when we sold the jeep we signed a bill of sale, the 3rd buyers of the jeep used the bill of sale to apply for an abonded title instead of the VIN # and was told, that any one who sold that jeep without the title could go to jail. I still can’t get up with the original seller and found out the jeep wasn’t even in her name to sale it was her sisters and her sisters husbands jeep and they had to reapply for the title, no one else can. What I am asking is that……How can someone sell a vehicle when it isn’t even it her name w/out a title. Can I take her to small claims court bc she said she applied for the title, etc and them changed her story even tho we still owe her another $100.00 for the jeep even tho its been sold and what is the best way for the 3rd buyers to apply for a title? I know its alot to read…tried to make is all make sense. PLEASE RESPOND ASAP..need some answers. THANKS

A: Forget owing her a $100 and work on getting a mechanic’s lean for the title, it was not a smart move to sell a car you didn’t have title to..

Q: Is it better to negotiate the trade in value first or the purchase price of a car??
I want to trade in my 06 Malibu on a 98 Jeep. I have about 4-5k in equity in my Malibu. When I get to the dealer is it better to negotiate the trade in price of my Malibu first or the purchase price of the jeep? If you think it is better to negotiate the price first, should I even mention that I’m thinking of trading in until negotiations are completed?

I’m interested in saving time at the dealer as well as money. I don’t want to get caught in the endless loop of “Let me check with my manager” situation as they try to wear me down that I could avoid if I can flat out tell them no off the bat if the numbers on either won’t work.

I’m thinking that it is probably better to negotiate the trade in first since I already know how much I am willing to pay for a particular jeep.

I don’t want to private sell to avoid the hassle and loose the sales tax advantage. I now take mass transit or my motorcycke to work so the jeep would only be used for fun stuff on the weekends.
Okay the problem with doing a private party sale is huge when selling a later model car. First of all I haven’t paid it off so I have to deal with the purchasers bank and my bank, take time off from work to do that, loose my vacation time, deal with the time on the weekends showing it. Making appts for people who never show up and ruin my weekends, etc. LOTS OF HASSLES, my time is worth something after all. Plus when you trade in a car that is worth more than the car you are buying you save SALES TAX, this is 10%, so on a $8000.00 vehicle that is $800.00, so yes my time is worth $700.00 not to deal with the hassles.

A: Negotiate the trade-in first, since you aren’t going to buy the car unless they give you a good trade-in. It will give you a good understanding of how they do business also.

Q: In market for a used vehical, please Help?
My S10 Chevy Blazer was buried in salt water and won’t work right. I need something reliable thats inspectable in Rhode Island Emmisions, I’m willing to pay no more than $1500.00 Anyone out there have any localized vehicles for sale, preferably a wagon, or something I can throw a lawnmower in the back of like a jeep/truck or something…

A: I was going to tell you about craigslist, but Ian F beat me to it.
craigslist is a great resource for anybody looking to buy or sell.
I now use it more than ebay. (as it is free to post AND the ads are from your local area…)

BTW, this post put me at 7K points

Q: buying a used car with a rod knock?
let me first start out by saying the only reason im asking right now is because my boyfriend mechanic is a work and i can ask him…

i found a 1999 jeep cherokee limited for sale $2000 but they say it has a rod knock. Now i know this will ultimatley lead to the need for a new engine. How does one know it IS actually a rod knock. couldnt a mechanic just say it is to make that extra HUGE amount of cash. i was looking online and it said a lot of people misdiagnose a rod knock for something stupid. so if it IS a rod knock is it worth it?
im not worried about the labor, my boyfriend can do all that

A: diagnosis is easy with a stethoscope – you can get an automotive one at Autozone or any similar store that sells automotive tools.

with the engine idling, poke around with it to find the source of the sound inside the engine.

a new engine will run $1500-$2000 plus labor.

Q: Where can i get the interior ac vents for a 2007 Jeep Commander?
I need one of those flaps use on the ac vent for a 2007 Commander i have searched all the main JEEP web sites and the dont sale those parts. Also i need pink or purple JEEP floor mats for my wifes Wrangler if anyone has advice on that!!!PLEASE HELP.

A: AC vents can only be bought at the dealer. I needed them for my Dodge truck and went through the same search. You can by them online from any OEM parts dealer.

Pink or purple floor mats are out of my field of experience.

Q: Question for mechanics or knowledgeable Jeep owners about a 2004 Jeep Wrangler w/ lift kit?
I am looking at a used 2004 Jeep Wrangler Sport as an extra “fun” vehicle. I have nowhere near the knowledge of a mechanic. It has a lift kit and the sales person/mechanic at the dealership told me that one of the rear suspension things is locked up. They don’t intend on fixing it..it’s ‘as is’. Question is: can it be fixed? Is it ridiculously expensive to fix? Should I even care if it is fixed? If it isn’t fixed, will it cause further problems? They only want 12,000-ish for it, so I was thinking something must be wrong with it.

Anyone have any constructive input without being able to see it in person?

You can see it here: http://www.autotrader.com/dealers/dda/detail.jsp?ct=u&car_id=260568060&dealer_id=100012010&car_year=2004&dealership_view_name=null&model=&make2=&start_year=2002&keywordsfyc=&keywordsrep=&engine=&result_car_id=234041423&fuel=&search_type=both&suppressStyle=null&make=JEEP&keywords_display=&color=&min_price=&drive=&default_sort=&max_mileage=&sort_type=priceDESC&advanced=&end_year=2008&doors=&transmission=&max_price=&cardist=0

A: Take it for a test drive… to your mechanic. Have him give it a good look and a price on any repairs needed. When you get back to the dealer with your mechanics list of needed repairs you can negotiate the price. If they don’t want to either fix the problems or deal on the price leave. Don’t leave a contact number don’t look at something else on his lot. Just leave.

Q: What’s the best deal on a used car for $9000?
I have a 2001 Jeep Grand (Limited) w. 78,500 miles up for sale. I expect to get around $9000 for the car.

My question is…what should I get with the cash? I’m so torn! I wonder if I should finance a new car (like the Ford Fusion for 0.0% APR), or should I buy something used? I am SO attracted to the ‘00 – ‘04 BMW’s…some of them have 70,000+ miles on them…but damn they are hot, and I’d have a huge chunk of the down paymen, since some of them go for around 14 or 15K on eBay! Gas mileage is important to me, so no SUV…but damn, I love those hot luxery cars! What’s my best option? Any suggestions??? I also don’t want to get stuck with a lemon. The last thing I need is to inherit someone’s piece of trash nightmare!

A: Your concept of what you want is so broad it is virtually impossible to point you in the right direction. Here are some basics: 1) Used is always less expensive to own than new for a 3-5 year period 2) luxury and economy are usually mutually exclusive conditions

You need to kick back, relax and spend an hour or so reading something like Consumer Reports 2008 annual automotive issue. It covers both new and used and provides a ton of info on price, economy, reliability, and safety. Use this to narrow your choice to 4-5 vehicles.

Next use edmunds.com “cost of ownership” model to analyze each of your choices. This give you a comprehensive look at depreciation, insurance, fuel, etc. by year for a 5 year period.

Now you have a basis to make a good decision. Is luxury worth the total additional cost? Does a new car turn you on enough to justify buying new versus used? Will the insurance cost on a sporty vehicle make it too expensive? You are the only one that can make those value judgements.

Good luck and happy shopping.

Q: Jeep Grand cherokee V8 or Inline 6 ?
For my first car my mom is going to help me buy one. Im basicly working on minimum wage atm making around 900-1200 a month. I cant save a single penny because I have to pay for grocery’s and other things. I really like her 98 Grand cherokee i like the way it drives its really easy to drive the car, i love how it handels in the winter. This last winter we had 3 feet of snow twice and the car drove in it like a champ. I’ve been doing alot of work on the Jeep learning the engine, and other parts. Changed the sparkplugs, distributor cap and rotar, the oil, the transmission output sensor (which she neglected to fix for 10 years), the air filter stuff like that.

I actually enjoy working on the car, now I plan to get a used 97-98 preferably dont really want a 93-95, I wish i could find a Jeep that has the same 2WD-4WD options as hers, but all im seeing on craigslist seem to be locked in 4WD.

I want to get the V8 because it sounds better, and If i ever get into modifications or something i thinka V8 would be better. I saw alot of youtubes video’s of the 5.9 and 5.2 actually drag racing and they kicked the crap out of all the other cars. The V8 with a modified exhast sounds like a beast too. However i also like the inline 6 because of it longevity and reliability that i am reading from online. Gas mileage also plays another parts as im not rich i cant afford alot of Gas.

Whats the gas mileage diff between the 5.2 V8 and the 4.0 Inline 6 ? According to the electronic thing in the Jeep she gets 17MPG, altho from the math on the fuel gauge when it gets low i concluded its actually around 13Mpg with the a/c being used on and off. My mom said the V8 gets terrible gas mileage and her friend sold his along time ago because of that. So eh i dunno.

What should I get ? Also when im looking at a Jeep what should i look for to see if it has mechanical problems like with the transmission and engine so i dont waste my money. How many miles is too many ? How much money is too much ? I noticed most Jeeps for sale in my area are 96’s with like 200k+ miles and seem to go for around $2500 which seems too much to me.
Your right a Inline 6 would probably be better. I just like the V8 sound and power.

No way id get a V4 Jeep heh, i’ll gladly pay more gas money for a bigger engine then that. As for a cherokee, eh i never liked the way they look. To much like a Box on wheels. Even when i was 10 years old i had a neighbor who had one and i thought it was ugly..

A: V8 or I6?
I have owned both. The V8 Grand Cherokee (160k miles) that I am driving right now gets 18-19mpg. If you look around on line you will see that between the I6 and the V8 there is a 2-3 mpg difference. Both engines are excellent. If you are going to keep your Jeep stock go with the I6,if you are planning on bigger tires,a lift, heavy bumpers with a winch, etc, stick with the V-8.

I have never heard of anyone with a V8 Jeep wishing that they had a I6. The only real advantage that I see with the I6 Grand Cherokees,is that there is more room to work on the I6 versus the V8. The power of the V8 Jeep grand Cherokees is impressive, and yes they sound great with an after market exhaust. You will not have a problem merging or passing with a V8 Grand Cherokee.I cannot say the same for my experience with the I6 Jeeps that I have owned, especially after bigger tires and a lift.

If you are looking at 1999 and up Grand Cherokees, try to get one with SelecTrac (2003 and up) and not one with QuadraTrac Jeeps are either four wheel all the time or 4 Low. The QudraTrac (NP247) transfer cases are weak in my opinion, take a special dealer only fluid ($) and they all seem to fail around 100-150k.They are around $750.00 used and twice that to rebuild. I am working on converting mine to SelecTrac right now.

You can tell a QudraTrac Jeep from a SelecTrac Jeep buy either looking at the shifter console or by looking at the tag on the transfer case. QuadraTracs are 4×4 all the time and 4 Low only with the NV247 transfer case. SelecTracs are 2wd,4×4part time,4×4 full time and 4 Low and have the NV242HD transfer case.

Check out WJJeeps.com for an almost overwhelming amount of info on the WJ series Grand Cherokees.

Q: Is this guy trying to steal my jeep?
I listed my jeep for sale on craigslist. This guy emailed me and said he would buy it without even seeing more than 4 pictures or hearing a lot of details on it. He says the jeep is going to england where he lives and that after payment he will arrange for a shipping company to come and get it. He says we can use paypal or bank transfer as payment. is he trying to steal my jeep and cancel the payment? how secure is bank transfer or paypal for the seller?

A: I would absolutely NOT trust paypal or a bank transfer for payment. He needs to provide a loan check, money order, or cash for it. None of those can be cancelled, therefore you should be ok. If he refuses those payment types, do not sell to him.

Q: Car smart people! please help me out i need ya! thanks a bunch!?

another question what is a good car for me i was thinking a jeep or somthing like that? what do you guys think? thanks so much!

A: goto KBB.COM to get an idea of what the van is worth. It will atleast give you a starting point on the price you ask for.

Q: What’s your best money saving tips?
As a SAHM and just in general a frugal person, I am always looking for tips to save money. I will share a few of mine too. Here are my favorite money saving tips

Use a crock pot, it takes less money to run than your oves, saves tons of time, food turns out great, and it doesn’t heat the house.

Use a Toaster oven. When I’m not cooking in the crock pot I’m cooking in my toaster oven. I bought one big enough to bake pies, bread, cake in square cake pan, cookies, chicken, steaks, etc….. I bought a regular toaster for making toast. I feel making toast in a large toaster oven is a waste of electricity.

Buy used when possible. I bought my sons loft bed for $150 the same exact bed sales for $1000 at our local kids furniture store. I bought his power wheels 2 seater jeep for $30. and I bought a Quadra Fire gas insert for $250, we were looking at the same one at a local store for $2500. These are just a few bargains I have found.

A: So many tips, so little room! I save plastic bowls from cottage cheese, yogurt, cream cheese, etc. They are great for organizing small items like nails and screws, or can be used when painting. Same for coffee cans. I save my daily newspapers and then wet them and roll into logs that I use in my fireplace in the winter. Freecycle is another great thing! I also clean and reuse plastic water bottles. I save my large plastic bottles for my greenhouse though. I will fill them with water, paint them with black spray paint and use them as a heat sink when the weather gets cold and my greenhouse needs warmth. When it warms up and the bottles are not needed, I use the water from the bottles to water my plants. Right now, I’m saving the caps from beer bottles to make a cool art project outside! It’s my sister’s idea! I mostly shop at thrift stores or consignment stores for clothing, and yes, I do hang my clothes outside on a clothesline!

Q: ok for all of you car smart people! help me out here!?

A: Condition Value

Excellent
$4,025

Good
$3,615

Fair
$3,130

This is if you sell it to a private party. If u sell it to a retailer then it would be less than this.

Regarding what type of car u should get. It all depends on your style. I will give u some advice though. Dont get anything with good acceleration or a fast car because that leads to all sort of trouble. When I first got my license I ended up having my licensed suspend 6 months later. So have fun and good luck to you
