Q: How many miles do Toyota Land Cruisers usually run without serious problems?
I want to buy a used Land Cruiser, and have seen mileage numbers ranging from the 100s to 200s. My question is to find out how many miles a Toyota Land Cruiser(preferably from 1990 to 1995) will run before encountering serious problems.
Plus, how many miles per gallon do the old land cruisers get?
A: Do yourself a favor. Buy a real SUV. get a Tahoe!
Q: How good are the older Toyota Land Cruisers?
Why does the new FJ Cruiser look more like the old Land Cruisers then the new land cruisers do?
A: It’s Toyotas version of a “retro” vehicle. The FJ series Land Cruisers were considered one of the best ever off road type “suv’s”. Very durable and could go almost anywhere. The new FJ’s are following this same tradition. They are well worth checking out for some serious off roading needs. Plus they look pretty cool!
Q: When the new model of Toyota Land Cruisers and Lexus LX model will come to the market?
A: Early 2008 is the official set time. I don’t know when exactly that will be, but that what Lexus representatives are saying. I would guess around the end of January to the beginning of February.
Q: I like the classic Toyota Land Cruisers. What’s the difference between the FJ40, FJ45, and FJ47?
What’s the difference when the “F” is changed to an “H”? I.E. HJ40, HJ45, HJ47?
A: Johnny is partly correct. This may be more than you were looking for, but here’s a quick run down:
“J” is simply Toyota’s platform code for Land Cruisers. Every Land Cruiser has a “J” in the model designation. It may have originated with their copies of WWII Jeeps, but as far as I know, that’s never been an official explanation.
The first part of the model designation denotes the motor. “F” is for an in-line 6-cylinder gasoline engine. There were many variations to the “F” series motors over time, generally referred to as “early F”, “F”, “2F”, “3FE” (the E denotes fuel injection). There were also 3F motors in countries outside the US. In 1993, the in-line 6-cylinder engine was changed substantially and called the 1FZ-FE, for which the model designation became “FZ”. That was followed by the 2UZ-FE motor in 1998, which has a “UZ” designation.
“H” and “B” are diesel motor designations. Similarly, there were different motors over time, most popularly, the 2H and 3B. A 1978 BJ40 would look identical to a 1978 FJ40, except that it would have a 3B engine instead of a 2F.
All of the “J4″ series Land Cruisers have basically identical front ends (with regard to body styling), but will have different configurations for the rear. Johnny gave a decent summary above. 40, 41, 42, 43, 44, 45, 46, 47.

Q: When did Toyota Land Cruisers stop offering manual transmission?
A: This isnt going to be an answer, more a recognition of you not being the only one in shock, haha
Im about to check Toyota’s website… Hmm
Q: Are Toyota Land Cruisers hand made?
My Toyota dealer indicated Land Cruisers were hand made to explain their long reputation for being reliable and “bulletproof”.
A: hold on, the “dealer” told you this? im guessing it was a salesman. the older ones require alot of “hands on” for modifications but this doesnt mean “hand made”. i checked out the new FJ and it seemed like a great truck. it might have a few parts that are hand made or have a real person check for quality or fit. there is no way a real person bolts and welds everything together on that vehicle though.
Q: Are all 1994 Toyota Land Cruisers stick shift?
UGGGHH!!!!! THIS IS MY DREAM CAR!!!!!! Are they all stick shift or do some come in automatic?
A: Where do you live?
Because here in America they are all Automatic. They were never offered with a 5 Speed.
Also in America you can only get them with the Gas engine. Sadly there is no Diesel engine option.
Q: Is a 1999 Toyota Land Cruiser better than a 2006 Toyota Avalon?
Im looking into buying a 1999 Toyota Land Cruiser with 129k miles or a 2006 Toyota Avalon with 65k miles. I like the Land Cruiser better because its for off road use and was built in Japan, buts its 7 years older with 2x the amount of miles. Please help.
I heard that the 2006 & 2006 Avalons were recalled at the start for U-body welds and oil lines.
A: They are both in different categories. Luxury wise, they’re about the same.
It all comes down to whether you want a SUV or sedan. Pretty much all the factors are equal like 4 doors, brand, comfort, etc.
I personally like the Land Cruiser more. Those are amazingly built cars.
Q: When did Toyota Land Cruiser switch third row seat to bench from drop-down off side?
Need third row bench seat in Toyota Land Cruiser, but I have seen where some have the two seats that drop down off the side in the back. When did they switch to third row bench and was it standard or optional?
A: In addition to the 3.3L engine, 2004 V6-powered models were equipped with a new 5-speed automatic transmission, replacing a 4-speed automatic transmission, while the 4-cylinder models continue to use the old 4-speed automatic transmission. This year also saw the introduction of the optional third row seat. The unibody was slightly modified behind the second row seats to include a depression on the trunk floor to accommodate the optional third row seating. On models without third row seating, the depression on the trunk floor was turned into a storage compartment. (Prior to 2004 the spare tire was accessible from inside the vehicle where the third row seating would subsequently be located; beginning in 2004 the spare tire is accessible from underneath the vehicle.)

Q: Toyota Land Cruiser power window not working?
My 2000 Toyota Land Cruiser’s power window stopped working. I checked the fuse box and I tried switching fuses from the globe lights (there the same fuse) and the windows don’t work still. So it can’t be the fuse but maybe it’s the circuit because when I barley put the fuse in the globe light slot there is a click, but when i try that in the window side there is no click.
So what could the problem be?
A: the connector for the switch ..check the switch with a ohm meter.. also those motors fail often remove and test.. make shure all moving parts are lubricated. the window jack sometimes freezes for lack of lugricant
Q: How much does it cost to replace and repair a torque converter on a 1989 toyota land cruiser?
my 1989 toyota land cruiser will not go over 3rd gear, i think it is the torque converter. i need to know around how much it would be to get it fixed?
A: The first step is to get a proper diagnosis. I’m not saying you’re wrong, but it would be an uncommon failure for that transmission.
My best suggestion is to join the forum at http://forum.ih8mud.com/60-series-wagons/ and ask questions there and try to find a knowledgeable and reputable mechanic in your area that can do the work or help you find what you need.
Price will vary dramatically depending on what is actually needed and who you are paying to do the work. Good luck. FJ62s are great rigs.
Q: Can I disable the horn feedback I get when locking and unlocking my 94 Toyota Land Cruiser?
I have a 95 Toyota Land Cruiser that honks (beeps) everytime I use the keyless remote. Other cars I’ve had provided different types of “feedback” when locking the vehicle that you could choose, such as the lights flashing or nothing at all. Does the this model toyota land cruiser have a similar option and how do engage it so that the horn stops honking everytime I hit a button to unlock it?
A: This is just the type of alarm that was installed on your 80 series…You can go to a alarm shop and they will fix the problem…The easy way is to just pull the wire to the horn and use the finger when you get discouraged from another driver…
Q: What are the two fluid tanks in the engine bay in an FJ60 Toyota Land Cruiser?
I just bought a 1986 Toyota Land Cruiser. There are two clear fluid chambers in the engine bay. I know one is washer fluid but the other I cant figure out. It has two hoses coming from it with one leading to the carb and the other leading into the engine. Any ideas?
A: One is the washer fluid the other would be the coolant overflow resevoir

Q: Would you buy a new house or a new Toyota Land cruiser, the car of your dreams?
I live and work full time in Japan. I will never return to the UK. I live with my in laws, a good situation no stress, but we would like our own house which are no cheaper than anywhere else in the world. My wife recently told me I can buy a new Toyota Landcruiser which will cost $50000 plus! and will take 5 years to pay for. My heart tells me Land cruiser, my dream car, but my brain tells me House! What would you do?
A: There is a chance that the house will become an asset where as the car wont. Also your wife loves you so she is offering you what you ‘want’ but if you decline it and get what you ‘need’ as a ‘family man’ how much more will she love you?
A woman’s love is worth more than the house and the car combined.
